FUNDAMENTALS of SPECIAL EDUCATION LAW and ADVOCACY

Navigating the maze of special education laws and regulations can be overwhelming and confusing, even to the most savvy and experienced parent.  But understanding your child's rights and knowing how to be an effective advocate are among the most important things you as parents can do to ensure that your child receives an appropriate education.  Our time together will be an opportunity for you to acquire the basic tools of special education law and advocacy.

We will address essential questions, including:

** Who is eligible for special education services?
** When is a District required to fund a private school placement?
** How do you get reimbursed by your District for tuition you have already paid to a private school?
** What special rights do children with special needs have when it comes to discipline, suspension and expulsion?
** What do you do when your child is refusing to attend school?
** And much more.
